The Sex Pistols formed in 1975 under the watchful eye of Malcom McLaren.
In 1976 they exploded in the nation’s consciousness and along with The Damned and The Clash are seen as pioneers for the early British Punk movement.
They were assembled at McLaren’s shop SEX that he owned with Vivienne Westwood. Fronted by the sardonic and provocative Johnny Rotten (aka John Lydon) with Steve Jones, Glen Matlock and Paul making up the gang that was never far from controversy. Sid Vicious would eventually replace Glen Matlock but by this time the band was already imploding.
Sid Vicious (aka Simon Richie) became in many ways the face of British Punk, but this was to be short lived after the untimely death of Nancy Spungeon in 1978 he died of an overdose in February 1979.
In their short career as a recording and performing band, they were signed initially to EMI Records, before being briefly signed to A&M Records and then onto the fiercely ambitious Richard Branson Virgin label. The level of promotion that Virgin applied to the band between 1977 and 1979 was unprecedented for the period.
Concert memorabilia such as posters for The Sex Pistols for the period 1975-1978 are very desirable and in particular concert/promo posters, instruments, stage & album props, handwritten lyrics/letters and signed items.
